No Waste ~ No Hunger

Some have suggested that we waste out of arrogance. I don't believe that we willfully and purposefully waste food - but it happens - on a huge scale. I believe that we don't understand how much waste is happening in our homes, offices, in restaurants and clubs and in our supermarkets and on farms.
Affect what you control
Manage food shopping - buy less, be creative with leftovers and shop effectively
Clean out food pantries - donate extra food that you no longer want or need
Repurpose leftovers - after a restaurant meal - for another day
Donate leftover food - after parties and events - to local pantries and feeding programs
Donate extra vegetables - grown in your home garden
Buy ugly food - a misshapen pepper or scratched squash are
perfectly healthy - don't avoid these fresh foods
Set up a food drive
Collect food at schools, churches, sporting events - as a team project, community project or team building
Find out what is most needed at your local pantry or feeding program
Communicate broadly to encourage wide participation
Create a Gleaning event to pick leftover produce after a farm harvests
How to donate
Contact a church or government office to find a local pantry or feeding program
Ask what they will accept - feeding programs will often accept prepared food - pantries may not
Get involved.
